Little Almanac of the Ave Maria
The angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin whom a man named Joseph, of the house of David, had married.
And the virgin's name was Mary.
The angel came in where she was and said to her...
All the children of God present themselves at the foot of your altars, they repeat to you a thousand times blessed. O Queen, O Mother, do not disdain the praises which rise up to you from the valley of tears. Mgr Dupanloup
O Mary, you are the wife and mother of the King of kings, you are with God the mediatrix of the men whom you cherish; lower therefore upon our supplicating hearts the eyes of your mercy. St. Bonaventure
All generations will call me blessed, because God has looked upon his humble servant. Virgin most pure, you are blessed among women, for we have received from you the fruit of life. Office
Happier than all mothers, O Mary, you have seen God in your son, you have caressed the one who gave you life; stretch out to him the arms that have so often carried him; pray to him to save us. Abbot Perdreau
All beautiful and all pure, Mary has ravished the heart of the King of kings. Mother of God, she is also the mother of men, and we have found in her maternal heart a sweet and safe shelter. Saint Bernard
Mary has all the power to help us, she has the will to do so. O my beloved children, this is the ladder of sinners, the refuge of all afflicted hearts.
St. Bernard
O Mary, our days are sad and evil; you know our dangers, you know our sorrows. Speak therefore for us to Jesus, O Mary, you who possess his heart; pray, for your Son always listens to you. St. Bernard
Holy Virgin, when our tongue can no longer invoke you, when our eyes close to the light, deign to present our soul to the most sweet Jesus, your Son and Our Lord.
Saint Elizabeth had just praised Mary, saying: "Blessed are you among women." Mary responded by praising and blessing God, who in His mercy had chosen her to give to the world the One who was to be the salvation of the world.
Let us also exalt the Lord for so many graces with which he has bestowed upon us: Magnificat anima mea Dominum...
